Im looking at a 1993 BMW 325i and it has 179,000 miles on it. Is that too many? How many miles can a BMW go?

Unless this car has had a lot of maintenance done on it - WATCH OUT. That's a lot of miles. It is due for a valve job and ring job, and as long as you go that far you gotta put in new valve guides, springs, rod bearings, crank bearings, cam bearings and of course a new timing chain. Not to mention new hoses and belts - that's a gimme. You also gotta look at the exhaust system, oxygen sensors, and injectors. To overhaul an engine to this degree - well it would probably be easier and cheaper to buy a newer engine out of a wrecked car and switch engines. Then ya gotta look at suspension - shocks, springs, bushings. How do the tires look? Battery? Plug wires (wires alone cost about $100)
It is worth about $2000 - maybe.

BMW's with that mileage will probably still run if it was taken care of well, but I wouldn't do it. With that mileage you know you will have to start replacing things soon and, minor as they may seem, they will cost you an arm and a leg. As you know BMW parts and labor aren't cheap.
I strongly recomend you get a used 1999 BMW 740IL V8
