Question: is the BMW X5 a front wheel drive or is it a back wheel?matchless

The X5 is actually a computer controlled 4 wheel drive. Although power is typically transferred to the rear wheels under normal conditions, the traction control system of the car (Called DSC for Dynamic Stability Control) monitors the speed of each wheel individually. Depending on driver input, when the system detects slippery conditions, it instructs the differential to transfer power to the wheel(s) with the 'most' traction. Once the slippery conditions have ended, the system reverts to a standard rear wheel drive configuration.
it is a back wheel drive.
The new BMW X5 uses XDrive which is essentially all wheel drive with more power directed to the rear wheels-much better handling than a front wheel drive car but still holding the all wheel drive traction advantages.
It's all wheel drive. X means all wheel drive on any of their vehicles
All wheel drive.
All wheel drive, under normal conditions 62% of the power goes to the back wheels.
It has the BMW "X drive" system which is an AWD. Similar to that of Audi's Quattro, Mercedes's 4matic and VW's 4 motion.
