it depends on how well they maintained it. make sure they have records of oil changes and other service done to it. also, you can run the VIN number to see if it has been wrecked, etc. the car looks great.

Last year I bought a German spec 1991 320I with 300,000 km = I paid $1700USD.I consistently cruise the autobahn at 180 kph. BMWs are very well designed cars.

among being one of the best car manufacturers to date BMW maintains a strict standard for the industry giving birth to not only some of the most beautiful, but also some of the most powerful cars that meet public asphalt. Unlike many of its contemporaries, audi, mercedes, lexus (not a real contemporary) etc. . . BMW is one of the last independent companies still in control of their own company with all original parts and engines. Among other things, if you have never driven a BMW then it will simply be another expensive car to you, but if you can find one that fits your lifestlye and take it out for a test drive i willl guarantee that you will develop the want and need for the ultimate driving machine.
Simply put - really built strong and handles like no other car. The motors have a lot of torque compared to other cars.

With all the changes to the diesel fuel regulations in the US, are we going to see some of BMW's awesome diesel engines available in their 3 and 5 series cars over here??

While automakers like Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and others already sell diesel engines in popular car models, the news that BMW will join that group is still noteworthy. By adding urea �?an additive that cuts certain pollutants by 50 - 90% when used in heavy-duty vehicles �?BMW will meet stringent U.S. standards in all 50 states. Currently, California’s even tougher emission standards exclude even the most modern diesel cars from being sold there. There’s no word on how the urea will be added to the diesel fuel or which BMW models will feature the diesel option. But BMW says it will figure it all out in less than two years.

Well if you can find one there were a few 524td cars made in '85. They did start selling a marine diesel engine to a marine diesel engine manufacture last year. They will be called the "BY" series by Yanmar.
my problem is whenever it is cold the car won't start. and if it is a warm day it starts right away, this certified bmw mechanic changed the alternator, the battery and the last thing the spark plugs and i still have the same problem and now he is thinking about messing with the fule pump. thank you for your answers.
First of all I'm a little skeptical of the mechanic. If the symptoms described are accurate, and the car cranks, then it's not the battery. The battery only turns the engine over. The alternator doesn't have anything to do with the starting of the car. The alternator merely recharges the battery when the engine is running.
I doubt if it was the spark plugs since plugs last for quite a while and worn plugs will give other signs (poor performance, bad gas mileage, etc) before refusing to start the car.
There can be any number of things wrong. Yes it might be a fuel pump. But pumps are expensive and you should be pretty sure this is the problem before replacing something that's probably good. The MAS might be faulty. Could also be the VANOS. Or a loss wire.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but trying to diagnose an auto problem over the internet is difficult.
But again, you might want to seek out another BMW mechanic.
I am looking at getting a 2000 323i BMW and was wondering how much the repairs would be, also how many miles would it last. i need a car that would last at least another 4 years will minimal repair costs.
I agree with snoiwe on all of these problems and would like to add that there are a few more things you need to worry about on the newer models mostly electrical in nature. The consumer database shows many owners reporting probelms with the central computer module which is alays needing upgrades or replacement. This module controls just about everything electrical in the vehicle and when it fails, good bye transportation. Interestingly, statistically speaking, the 1999 models and older where more reliable than the newer models today. The most reliable were the 1980-1988 models but I doubt you want to go that old.
However, I would like to point out that the reason BMW swtiched to the Hydramatic transmssions from GM was because they were 100% reliable whereas the trans they used before were alwasy breaking down. As you can see, Wetsombereo does not know whay he/she is talking about- ZF is made by ZF Friedrichshafen AG, a German company which has had many problems. BMW has had no problems with the GM transmission.
I would advise you to avoid this vehicle and go with something more reliable. The 2003 Lexus IS300 is a great soild car. It drives excellent and is of course very reliable. Its about the same size. The only downside is some find the styling to be 'boy racer' compared to more classy models.
If i put a supercharger in my bmw m3 convertible how fast will my 0-60 time and quarter mile be?
Right now i can do 0-60 in 5.0 sec and do a quarter mile in 13.6 sec
So i will be goin for 333hp to 500hp.

Your 0-60 is theoretically 4.9.
With a supercharger I forsee you doing more like 4 flat.

It is not worth it, the intake necessary for it sucks in a ton of water. If you live anywhere it rains the intake on those suck. I would talk to your local Dinan guy is you want specifics. I was going to do it but it rains too much where I live. My friend suggested against it and he is a master tech for BMW.
