Please help, i bought these white wedge bulbs for my BMW E36 compact but they don't seem to fit, I've looked around on the net and they are the right ones.

That sounds like the same bulb I spent over an hour trying to fit in my Alfa. It's for the sidelight, yes? Like so many modern cars, replacing even a lightbulb is getting beyond a home job, take it to the dealer, they'll have more experience of it.
ps- Also with it being a halogen bulb, you're not supposed to touch the glass itself, making the job even harder.
