Maintenance cost for BMW 5 Series(1999-2001)?

I am thinking of buying BMW 5 series (1999-2001) but not sure about its maintenance cost i.e. what is the fuel consumption? how much annual service will cost? is it a reliable car? Should i buy one which has already done upto 80,000 miles? What is the max age of the engine in mileage? And if you own one how much does it cost you per annum to keep it nice %26 tidy and uptodate?. Any information will be appreciated.

My sister just bought one and reckons she gets 52 to the gallon.I previously owned a 3 series coupe which frankly was a nightmare if it needed anything doing what with the big low profile tires etc and full M kit.Still,she was a classy job.

They are reliable and can reach well into the 200,000 mile range if properly maintained . I own a M3 ,but know many 5 series owners and I'd say 2,000 a year is average to maintain correctly , some years more some less and if you do some work yourself it will cut costs down extremely

I'm including tires,brakes,oil,transmission oils , little odd things breaking etc . good luck

Gas consumption would depend on model, there many different engines in the 5 series line up .
