Electronic limiter on bmw m3?

ok, i know that all german car makers, except for porsche, limit there cars to 155 mph, except for the M models like M3 and M5 which can hit close to 200 mph without a limiter and the AMG models on mercedes.

my question is, where can i go to get the limiter chip out of my bmw m3 or can i do it myself?

You contradicted yourself in the question. It's true that they all use 155 limiters except for Porsche. That includes the M cars, which you are asking about anyway. 155 is the highest, some cars are lower, like SUVs and smaller cars.

It is part of the software, you can't just remove it yourself. You can however buy a chip that does not have that part of the software in it. Don't know what year you have, but Dinan sells chips that range from no change except for the speed and rev limiters, to full out performance chips tuned around exhaust and intake mods. Please note, if you have an E46, there isn't much a chip will do unless you have other mods. In other words, it's a lot of money just to remove the speed limiter that I bet you haven't even hit.

From what I've read, although advertised to be limited to 155, the E46 M3 will hit around 170 with no chip mods. Never tried it myself, only been about 145 in mine. 200 in a stock M3 isn't going to happen. It would need about 150 more horsepower and higher gearing.
