Is a old BMW as good as a new?

I want a nice car for about 12000 and I like luxury cars and i can get a decent BMW for that price or should I get a newer car

Personally I would not touch an older BMW because of the inflated maintenance costs. Just search the net for prices on common parts such as brake pads, exhaust mufflers, for fun, and you might just change your mind. I would go for high end Japanese cars, Acura, Lexus as they are known for lower operating costs.

At this price, you can get a 2001/2002 325i with about 80,000 - 90,000 miles.

It's okay but you'd probably be spending some additional money on scheduled maintenance (Inspection II) of the car, whoch could run you $800 to $1000.
How old is an "OLD" BMW? We usually look at the condition of the car before making any offers. We look at more than one car of the same vintage to make comparisons in value. We always take a knowlegeable BWM mechanic with us when we go to look at a privately owned BMW offered FOR SALE. You might want to check with a BMW dealer to see if there are any CPO cars in the dealer's inventory. What model of BMW would you like to have? I would suggest that you buy a used BWM that is still under warranty.
You can get very nice BMWs for that kind of money. Just remember a used car is just that a used car look it over to make sure there are no major problems. take note of the condition because remember BMW is more known for their performance than their luxury.
Does a 90 year old body work as well as a 25 year old?
There are a lot of other vehicles out there that will give you far more luxury than BMW for that price. You may get a really nice one for 12k, but then when something stupid happens you realize how much minor repairs are on these vehicles.
You can get a nice BMW 328 or 325 from 1997 -1999 in a very good condition with low mileage. It will be good for few years with possible minor repairs (i.e changing battery, spark plugs etc.) But it all depends on what you want and need.
You can't get a decent BMW for that price.

The Only BMW for that price is the BMW 3 series, which competes with the Mazda 6, Audi A4, Acura TSX, Lexus IS, and Mercedes C class.

I would prefer the Mazda 6 or Acura TSX. They are more reliable, much cheaper, and just as luxurious as the other cars.
a BMW for 12000 in good condition is going to be around 10 years old but still looks great. I recommend the BMW.
