I have a BMW 520(2000) The engine runs too cold, thus cabin heater cannot heat interior in winter?

Recently purchased my BMW 520 (V reg) privately, and love it, but the engine running temperature (it,s Feb now) is too low, the temp gauge needle does not come out the blue area. The engine still runs beautifully but the cabin climate control system cannot heat the cabin sufficiently as not enough heat coming from engine to operate it. We have to wear jacket in car at this time of year! Could this be a thermostat problem? Greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks

Could be any of the following or more:

a) Heat exchanger is broken

b) Cooling fan is always on

c) Thermostat is broken

d) ECU needs reprogramming (especially if car is imported)

Take to a reputable garage (preferably a BMW specialist)and get it checked. Avoid main dealer but make sure they have diagnostic equipment to plug into the ECU!

if you have the air-con turned on turn it off and try again if not it will be the thermostat
Save yourself some money and put a piece of dark cardboard over half of your radiator. This will increse the temperature that your car runs at, monitor the temperature gauge at first. cars can run at halfway on the gauge quite comfortably.
Probably is just the thermostat, but since the car is 8 years old, it would be worth getting the system flushed out and new anti-freeze put in it while you're at it.
