When they say BMW's are high maintenance, what does that mean? more...?

My mom and i are going to share a car, since we really dont use it that much. We both agreed on a used Bmw coupe (328 or 225). Are these BMWs reliable? am i going to have any regrets?

BMW's are great cars. Performance, handling and style is about as good as it gets. The downside is that a car in such a state of tune requires more maintenance. New BMW's come with 4 years of scheduled maintenance. Thats great if you have $45,000. If thats the case, might i suggest buying two$20,000 cars? I own 2 BMW coupes. A 1993 318is with 240,000 miles and a 2001 330ci with 130,000 miles. I do all the maintenance on time myself and have had few problems over the years. If you're going to get an older BMW,and have someone else make repairs and do maintenance then be prepared to spend a lot of money. Even an independant shop will be costly.

BMWs are very reliable cars. They require no more maintenance than any other car if cared for properly. However, if you buy a used Beemer that's been neglected you may find yourself spending more than expected on repairs and catch up maintenance. Score a BMW with complete service records if you can. Good service records usually indicate an owner that took the time to maintain their car properly and is a plus.
BMW's require routine preventative maintenance. If you don't spend money upfront you will spend a bundle when a major engine components fails.
yes they are reliable since it is a BMW. but if you have any problems (like all cars do) then you will be needing to have a thick wallet to pay those maintenance bills. This depends on how you and your mom use the car.
If you don't abuse it, it will run good. yes, the parts are more expensive, but things break less on these cars, as compared to a civic. Also, if you buy the broken parts yourself, on ebay (from a reputable seller w/ good feedback...), you will save yourself a ton of money. Go with the 328.
