What is the right engine Oil to use for the BMW 323i?

When I got it done at the dealer they used BMW 5W-30 synthetic.

Should I go with that and buy it from the dealer or are there other options?

5w 30 will be your best bet. Any thing heavier (10w 30) will cause unnecessary ware and tare on the vehicle. As far as synthetic or not I would go wit a full synthetic. There is an awsome oil additive called LUCAS I would check it out, you can get it almost anywhere and it definitely works. Easier start up cooler engine temps longer seal life.

I would go with Mobil 1 engine oil for a top end car like that. Its probably what the dealer used. It is more expensive, but it is worth the price. I would check to see if the oil filter is available at other places before I carry it to the dealer, unless the warranty calls for the dealer to service the car.

I would use the european blend 5w40 synthetic oil. 5w30 is probably fine. But 5w40 is better for your car.
