Oil for a BMW..?

Hi Peeps.. any ideas on the oil used on a BMW 320D 2005 sport?

mineral / semi or full synthetic ??

As the book advise it must meet or exceed XXXXX (means nothing to me) but on pooping into shell to buy a litre (for the 1st time) its a little confusing.

any genuine help appreciated!

hi DV8

try using mobile 1, or catrol EDGE, both are fully Syn oils, i think its best to use 5-40, but check with an independant BMW garage, as when i asked they didnt know 'it comes in a drum' so the independant will know, but use very high qulaity oils.

10W40 semi synth would be my choice and recommended by Autodata too.

Hope this helps.
Take it to the dealer. If you bought it from them, then you have free maintenance/warranty for 4 years or 50,000 miles. BMW's have oil changes about once a year or evey 15000 miles.
You shouldn't be pooping into a shell. Use a toilet like everyone else.
Right, open your handbook, and see what it says. It'll read something like "10W40" or "15W30" and say synthetic of semi synthetic. Don't mix the two, it's not fatal but it's not clever either.

The number refers to it's fluidity, but just make a note of the number and go to your local car spares place and say "1 litre of this stuff please".

Probably set you back £5 to £10, don't buy cheap crud though.
