Engine swap for an BMW E31 (8-series)?

Is it possible to swap an LS2 engine into a BMW E31 (8-series) with out cutting out so much that the frame is compromised?

A saw an E31 with a small block chevy in a magazine once, though I believe it was an either an LS1 or an LT1. The frame didn't need to be cut at all, but the mounting brackets for the engine and trans and such were difficult to get right. So yes it's possible...

Though I think it would be more cost effective to get an 840Ci (with the V8, not the V12 from the 850i) and invest your money into performance parts for the BMW motor, which are much easier to find than for the V12.

Personally, I think American motors are great, the LS2 rocks, but it belongs in an American car.

I own a 1997 540ia (black with beige interior) with only 74,400 original miles and it runs great!

The old 8 series look great, but as some may know...were a maintenance nightmare. The same applied to the 7 series V12s.

Here is a forum for 8-series BMWs:

Why not totally rebuild it from scratch rather than cutting out the frame?
By LS2 I am assuming you mean the big american pile of crap they try to pass off as an engine. I think that conversion has a few requirements...first you have to be a giant douche. Second you have to really want to sacrifice the tight high revving quality of a BMW motor and cram an oversized chunk of **** in its place. Buddy please....go buy a Vette and get out of BMW's.
