I don't know what these guys are smoking.

Monthly repair bills? - people think that a car doesn't need maintainence - all cars do - most people just drive things til they break. Do that and you'll end up with a big REAPAIR bill. Maintainance on the other hand isn't that bad - most parts are from big German suppliers and are cheap and readily available. Just watch out and don't buy non-OEM parts and you'll be good to go.

Sounds like a decent car. The 2.5l engine in that is a little underpowered for the 5, but that'll be good for a first car. The engine is a tried and tested BMW engine. If the car has been properly MAINTAINED, you'll get 350km without any issues. Make sure the timing belt, tranny and water pump have all been serviced around 95km and you're fine. Otherwise, that'll need to be done pronto and expect $1000US for the belt and pump, a tranny service can run you $350US. If unsure, take it to a local BMW shop (not foreign car shop, not German Auto shop - a BMW shop) they'll give you the straight scoop.

Mind you a garage queen isn't necessarily a good buy, if the car hasn't been properly mechanically kept. And if you do buy it just make sure to deal with any issues as they arise and don't let them linger...
