Could change a bmw transmission from a automatic to a manual?live update

Ok to the idiots saying "just buy a car already a manual" , BMW didnt import the 7 series in manual form to the U.S, so he cant just go sell it and buy one . Most the time I would say the same thing ,but in this case it isnt an option . That being said I think this is one of those rare incedents where it IS worth the swap and yes it is possible , after a manual swap and add a better differential and they can run in the 13's .It will cost a lot , but worth it .

Like any other cars, it is cheaper to buy manual transmission 7 series if possible. Even if you have to get a gray market car.

But if you must, then yes. You can drop the auto tranny and mount 540i transmission. They both use M60 engines so the transmission would mount directly. Then the length of the car is different so you would need to get a new driveshaft that would fit. Throw in new ECU, engine wiring, and some pedal modification. My guess is it would take about 100 mechanic hours.
Yes, you can change the e38 7 series cars from auto to manual, since in other markets, the e38 was offered as a manual trans. The mount points for the clutch pedal assembly are there. You will need the transmission, flywheel, clutch, shifter assembly (not a new console), clutch pedal assembly and master cylinder, and the ECU for a manual car. There is a BMWCCA member here in the USA that has a e38 car that was born as a 750iL V12 automatic car that he has swapped to a six speed manual from a BMW 850i. Very nice and all BMW parts used. This is not an inexpensive operation, but to have a manual 7 series here in the states is neat. The last manual 7 sold new here was the e32 735i 1988-1990, very rare, but they are out there. The new 7 series 2002+ cannot be reasonably converted as there is no manual option for this car anywhere in the world, no mounting points, no place for the shifter. The best conversion for your wants would be using a 2001 model 740i sport package car, and the ECU, and transmission from a 2001-2003 540i six speed car. Order the remaining parts from your BMW dealer. Your BMW parts counter can get ANY BMW part from ANY BMW model sold in the world. The ETK software has all cars and part numbers in it. Best of luck to you.
Anything "can" be done with enough money and effort. To start, there is the clutch pedal assembly to install and the engine computer is most likely next since it is for the tranny installed at the factory. The console would also need replaced..
