Has anyone owned a BMW X5 and changed it for a Range Rove Sport?

We would like to change our car to a range rover sport, having been very pleased with the bmw x5,we have test drove the range rover but few people have told us of its unreliability,We would like feedback from people who have changed from a x5 to range rover sport, who are normal people like us and not car sales people Many Thanks

I have had 5 BMW X5s in a row (all 3 litre diesel sports). Each one had electronic problems at some point and were promptly fixed but were otherwise fine. Last Year I got a RR Sport 2.7 TdV6 HSE and after 12000 miles have had no problems.

The BMWs are quicker, handle better and feel more 'together'. The Rangey is MUCH slower but compensates by, I find, being more comfortable. If you live in UK then I don't suppose outright performance is too important. I live in Germany and find the lack of pull over 90 mph a bit irritating in the RR - I would be interested in the new V8 diesel for this reason.

The petrol engined versions of both are horribly thirsty and lack the diesels' torque.

I'm glad you don't seem to be worried by the peculiarly British need to condemn BMW drivers as if they belong to some sort of breed - this sort of mealy-mouthed, narrow-minded, jealousy-inspired nonsense presumably stems from the inability of these people to be able to afford one.
